Kevin’s first Broadway play was GHOSTS. It was at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where he would later appear in The Iceman Cometh. The PLAYBILL® that I have is from August 1982. I didn’t see this play, but my mother won it for me on eBay on an Old Vic Theatre auctions page to save The Old Vic. It was autographed by Kevin outside the BAT during the Iceman run in 1999. One of my favorite pieces of KS memorabilia. This is what it says about Kevin on the ‘Who’s Who In The Cast’ page:
Kevin Spacey (Oswald) was born in South Orange, New Jersey and was raised in Los Angeles, California where he began acting at the age of 14. He appeared in the television series “The Comedians” in which he performed his impression of Johnny Carson. He trained at the Juilliard School of Drama for two years under the direction of Michael Langham and made his New York stage debut last summer playing the messenger in Joseph Papp’s production of Henry IV, Part I in Central Park, directed by Des McAnuff. Since then he has played a variety of roles ranging from the leading role in the Off Off-Broadway run of The Robbers to Garry Owen the dog, in Mr. Bloom and the Cyclops with Siobhan McKenna at the Public Theater. Kevin most recently created the role of Paul in the American premiere of Barrie Keeffe’s Barbarians at SoHo Rep, directed by Peter Byrne, which will be reproduced Off-Broadway in 1983.
GHOSTS Opened on Monday, August 30, 1982. Closed on October 2, 1982 after 40 performances and 8 previews.
