Site additions I’ve been adding some stuff to the movie section. A few things for Consenting Adults and a few things for The Negotiator. Here’s a question for someone .. in one of the articles I’ve added, Kevin is talking about actors doing theatre for various reasons of their own and he mentions actors doing theatre to “add to their CV” and I can’t figure out what CV stands for. Any ideas? *CV stands for Curriculum Vitae and means “the course of one’s life” and it is a “detailed listing of education, publications, and other professional achievements.” Or as we say in the U.S., a résumé. Thanks very much to Lisa, Alex, Christine and Kathy! I’m starting to think I need to add a glossary to the site.

I added two magazine interviews from 1998 to the Negotiator section. You can also find links to them on the Interviews page and the site links page.

Quick bit of Kevin on E! I just caught a few seconds of a very old interview that Kevin did on E!. It was at the end of a show about personal assistants to the stars. They showed some clips from Swimming With Sharks and then suddenly there was Kevin. It will probably repeat at some point because this wasn’t the first time it was on. It was just the first time I watched any of it.

Kevin on CNN in September Kevin is scheduled to do an appearance on CNN’s People In The News next month to discuss The United States of Leland. It repeats many times. The list is on the Calendar page. Thank you anonymous tipster!

Spacey tennis Kevin’s managed to get his name into a New York Times article about women’s tennis. It’s a small mention, but it’s all we’ve got. And it *does* start the article. The writer is referring to Anna Kournikova in Kevin’s part of the article, by the way.

The U.S.T.A. Needs to Ditch the Babes by Selena Roberts

Only one forbidden Russian could pout her way into the hearts of middle-age men seeking a Kevin Spacey moment amid the “American Beauty” rose petals.

Ok, that’s all there was about Kevin.

August 27, 2003

Moving Spacey I moved the picture from the entrance page to the first page of the Photographs section and added a new photo to the entrance page. The original color version of the new entrance page picture is now on the Drive-thru page along with the snippet it accompanied back in 1995. If anyone knows what magazine that came from, please let me know. It was the 1995 Year-End Special something. Probably Entertainment Weekly or one of those types.

August 26, 2003

Spacey pork This seems to be the week for reporting on Kevin’s eating and drinking habits. I added a small article about some pork chops that Kevin was supposed to have eaten at a restaurant in New York City to the Drive-thru page. Recipe included. Coincidently, one of the first items in that section was a gossip item about him being spotted eating cold cereal for breakfast. The big mystery though is whether or not he added extra sugar to the bowl.

Spacey Gazette One of these days I’m going to make up a new Gazette headline photo, but until then, enjoy the old picture of Kevin as a dark knight again.

TUS on AMC American Movie Classics has been showing The Usual Suspects. I watched some of it last night and was surprised to find that they’re using the edited television version of the film instead of the uncut theater version. My digital cable guide also referred to it as a Stephen Baldwin film! No mention of Oscar winner Kevin Spacey in the film’s description at all. This movie is almost 10 years old now. Hard to imagine.

Spacey Eating Luminary Kevin Spacey has been drawn to the “de rigueur hangout for thespians and other celebrities” in New York City. The eatery is called Angus McIndoe. It must be true. Would Yahoo and USA Today lie?

Angus McIndoe, next to the St. James Theatre. 258 West 44th St., between Broadway and 8th Avenue. 212-221-9222.

Thanks, Vivienne.

In Style September 2003, Salma Hayek on the cover. So far I haven’t seen Kevin in any of the pictorials or the article about Elton John’s charity ball last month, but I did find a very tiny picture about the size of a pencil’s eraser and his name on a page about the favorite vodka brands of the stars. Page 344.

Scene & Heard SKYY Made in: United States From: Unspecified grain Sippers: Kevin Spacey, Chloë Sevigny, Taye Diggs 2002 U.S. Sales: 1.49 million cases

Boy, if that ain’t slow Spacey entertainment news, I don’t know what is. I’ll try to find the picture somewhere else. This one is too small to scan.

August 18, 2003

Summer repeats Live! with Regis & Kelly announcer says Kevin will be on tomorrow’s (Tuesday) show. Should be a repeat of his interview for The Life of David Gale.

There’s not much else to report so I’m forced to drag out another old Spacey Gazette picture (above). I’ll answer site mail this evening.

A Doll’s House This Variety item dated August 14 says that Kevin is in talks to be in this film, not just that the director wants him to be:

Thurs., Aug. 14, 2003   ‘House’ reoccupied   Ullmann eyes Blanchett for Ibsen update   By GUNNAR REHLIN, JORN ROSSING JENSEN   Actress-helmer Liv Ullmann is planning a $10 million screen adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” with an international cast. The Norway-U.S. co-production will be shot in English, Ullmann told a press conference Wednesday at the Copenhagen Intl. Film Festival, where she accepted a lifetime achievement award. Ullmann hopes to sign Cate Blanchett and said she will start production in 2005, when Blanchett is available. Ullmann also said she is in talks with John Cusack and Kevin Spacey.

She has written a script based on the 1879 play about a woman who leaves her husband and children to seek a new life. Norway’s Dinamo Story will produce the project with Gerald Rafshoon Prods. Anniversary release Pic will be released in 2006, the 100th anniversary of the playwright’s death.

August 12, 2003

EastEnders On EastEnders (in the UK not one of episodes shown in the US) two characters were discussing getting a video out to watch. One (the slapper) mentioned George Clooney, the other (her rather sweet but simple sister Mo) said she preferred “that Kevin Spacey – he looks like my Billy don’t you think?”

Thanks, Vivienne!

The Life of David Gale The Region 2 DVD is being released on September 15. Thanks, Jacqueline.

Beyond The Sea The Bobby Darin film’s start date is being pushed back another month due to having to find another backer for the film after the original backers backed out. Shooting now starts in October.

August 9, 2003

I’ve added a new sketch to the Kevin Spacey Fine Arts Gallery. You can find it by going through the main section page or by going here. Thank you, Robert.

August 6, 2003

TLODG and Kevin’s hair I was reading an old review of David Gale and a critic from Entertainment Weekly said that Kevin is “entering a new era of bad hair”.

Spacey sighting! Kevin attended His Girl Friday at the National Theatre on Monday. This production stars Zoë Wanamaker and Alex Jennings. I don’t know which hair era he was in that night, but Steven Spielberg was also spotted.

For fans in Virginia If you use the Fairfax County Public Library, a spokesman for the library system said in the paper yesterday that they have many audio books in their system and Kevin is one of the actors whose name was mentioned as being in their collection. Kevin has read several books on tape in the past. All are listed on the Spacey Reading page.

News Item Update The article in The Mail on Sunday (not the Sunday Mail) said that the share offer was being extended by the Old Vic as £2 million is needed. Thanks, Jacqueline.

August 4, 2003

Official Spacey Fan Mail Address Drum roll please …. we have an official fan mail address announcement…

Fan mail for Kevin should be sent to the old William Morris Agency address that we’ve had for the past however many years instead of the polaris pr address we’ve had for the past year or so. The address is as follows:

Kevin Spacey c/o William Morris Agency 151 El Camino Drive Beverly Hills, CA. 90212

Update – Kevin is no longer with WMA.

I’ve updated that on the FAQ page. Thanks to Jackie.

Sunday paper There was a bad photo of Kevin in the Financial Mail section of the Sunday Mail (UK paper) yesterday, accompanying a small article about Kevin and the Old Vic. Did anyone read the article? Did it say anything new? I only saw the picture.

Pay It Forward I watched part of PIF on TV last night. It was on TNT. I’m not sure if the movie had commercials or if TNT was showing a 2 1/2 hour Jerry Maquire promo with a movie thrown in to break up the monotony.

Spacey speaks Kevin’s apparently been telling reporters in other countries that he feels the death penalty in the US is an abomination. Has anyone read that anywhere? He always claimed that he had no opinion either way, even though he often sounded as if he did in his interviews for David Gale. I wondered if he had finally decided to commit himself one way or the other or if he’s been misquoted somewhere along the way.

Excuses, excuses I’ve been very busy so I’m once again backed up on the site mail and poll responses and hope to take care of it this evening.

The Usual Suspects I’ve been trying to get some stuff together to put in the TUS section. I was reading a few old reviews and I was surprised that so many critics gave the film a poor review. There was one review that designated it “morally offensive” but gave it 4 1/2 stars for being a quality film. That made me laugh. I say if you’re going to be offensive, make sure you’re the best.

August 2, 2003

The Usual Suspects The special edition DVD of The Usual Suspects (with the fancier cover) is being re-released next month.

July 31, 2003

Everything on the site seems to be be working now. Thank goodness. I moved Kevin’s birthday card. You can find it by going here. There’s also a link back down at July 26 and the thumbnail w/link is on the Gazette Headlines archive page.

The chest hair of 2-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey, has broken the 400 votes mark on the Kevin’s Hair poll. Of the more than 30 polls and however many poll selections there have been over the past several years, this has received more votes than anything else. “Talking with his hands” in the Kevin’s Habits poll and his hair length in the Hair poll are closing in though. Both have more than 350 votes so far. Way to go Kevin!

Wiseguy – The Proffit arc Kevin’s long-awaited Wiseguy DVD set will be available in December of this year. Kevin is Season 1, Part 2. No word on any Spacey-related extras. Last week’s issue of TV Guide said that Kevin was one of the show’s best villains. Thanks, Bree.

A Doll’s House Kevin’s name pops up in this next article. The full news piece is at the link below.

Ullman woos Blanchett for star-studded Ibsen adaptation  by Jacob Neiiendam in Copenhagen

July 30, 2003

Norway’s great film diva, the 64 year-old actress-turned-filmmaker Liv Ullmann, is in talks with a bevy of top Hollywood acting talents, including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Spacey and John Cusack, with a view to casting them in yet another big screen version of A Doll’s House, her countryman Henrik Ibsen’s classic dissection of marriage.

Dinamo Story, the Norwegian production outfit behind the project – which has yet to be financed – did not wish to comment on the cast as nothing is signed yet. However, Ullmann herself revealed to local newspaper Dagbladet that she has had long been in contact with Blanchett about the main part of Nora.

She also sees Kevin Spacey, who made his stage debut playing opposite Ullmann in one of Ibsen’s plays on Broadway, tackling the part of the lawyer Nils Krogstad, and John Cusack in the key role of Torvald Helmer, Nora’s husband. The versatile and prolific Swede Stellan Skarsgaard has agreed to play Dr. Rank.

The film, which is set in the late 1800s, will be shot in Norway and its release should coincide with the 100th anniversary of the famous playwright’s death.

Thanks to Molly from Cusack 101 and thanks to Vivienne.

July 26, 2003

Happy 44th Birthday, Kevin Spacey! I loaded the card several hours early in case you’re still in London. Can you read the card? Did I get the letters big enough? Can you see it? Could you hear the music? Did you press the button on the card? Press the button, Kevin. No! Not with your finger. Left click, Kevin. Left click!

(The birthday card has been moved.)

July 25, 2003

Movie chat In honor of Kevin’s 44th birthday tomorrow, there’s a Life of David Gale chat scheduled for Saturday night in the chat room if anyone’s interested. Someone who shall remain nameless thought a more fitting tribute would have been a “good” movie, but since David Gale is what we have to go with, that’s what we’re gonna watch. So there! Tomorrow night, 9pm EST. Bring your popcorn and movie and we’ll start promptly at 9:10 or thereabouts. That’s PM and EST.

July 24, 2003

We’re baaaaack! Due to circumstances beyond my control the site has been offline since Tuesday. I was trying to log into the chat room and suddenly the site started to disappear one page at a time until suddenly, I was getting a message saying the main site URL “couldn’t be found” and of course, I wasn’t exactly thrilled by this. I wasn’t able to do anything about it but wait and wait and wait.  *OK, as of my last attempt to load my updates, all of the page banners and navigation buttons from the tops of the pages are missing so unless they suddenly reappear as if by magic, it may take several days to go back and try to put them all back in. Please bear with me. There are a LOT of pages on this site.   **I’m about at my wits end with these banners and navigation buttons. Everything I’ve tried has failed to get them to appear. It can’t be that the web host company didn’t enable the Front Page extensions because other Front Page components are working, right? Any suggestions from anyone?

*** Finally! I won’t bore everyone with what it took to get the banners and navigational buttons back.

The Life of David Gale I have added a review of the David Gale DVD to the reviews page of that section. Entertainment Weekly, Tobey Maquire on the cover. Er, more of the same thing the movie got except now, they don’t recommend the DVD either.

Here was a small Spacey-related mention on page 55 .. remember EW critic Lisa Schwarzbaum? She of the PIF spoiler-revealing critique? I laughed but many others did not. Anyway, page 55:

ASK THE CRITIC (Lisa Schwarzbaum)

Q: Will there ever be another film as great as Lawrence of Arabia, Citizen Kane, or Some Like It Hot? What recent films will stand the test of time? – Hank Thompson A: Oh Lordy, Hank, got any bigger challenges? Of course there are great modern films, and in 50 years they’ll look even greater. To match your list, I’ll suggest three huge and very different contenders: Groundhog Day (1993); Babe (1995); and L.A. Confidential (1997). Start Arguing.

July 21, 2003

Jeff Bridges, photographer Last night on Inside The Actors Studio, Jeff Bridges (Spacey co-star in K-PAX) was discussing the photos he takes of the actors he works with on his movies. A few of the photos shown were of Kevin during the K-PAX shoot. He said that the photobooks he makes at the end of each movie were going to be published to raise money for the Motion Picture & Television Fund. I couldn’t find anything on his web site about selling the individual movie books, but there is mention of a book called Pictures which is coming out in October 2003, and I assume that the photos from K-PAX will be in it. Proceeds from the book will go to the MPTF, which Kevin supports as well. There are links to sales sites here:

You know, Jeff is a fun guy as well as being another Spacey co-star with a full head of hair. Back when he was doing press stuff for K-PAX, he did an online Q&A and during his answering of audience member questions about K-PAX, his career, his holiday wishes and the ending of world hunger, the burning question I had submitted “Who is more adorable, you or Kevin Spacey?” was chosen by the chat moderator and he said:

“Well, I think that all depends on the outfit that either one of us is wearing. I right now am wearing a quite adorable teddy bear outfit. The hood of the outfit is down on my shoulders right now, but when I put the hood on, I look very much like a koala bear. Kevin — God knows what he is wearing at this moment. LOL.”

I always like to ask people the questions we really want to know the answers to, not the same old stuff!

David Gale video reviews I’ve put a few links to reviews of the David Gale DVD on the David Gale News page. Thanks to Borislava for those. The movie comes out tomorrow. I guess Universal isn’t planning to advertise the video very much.

Spacey Web ring A few fans have noticed that the Spacey web ring is gone from the Links page. I apparently deleted it (along with a few other links) without realizing it when I was moving links around on that page one day last week and then I had lost the HTML code for it and well.. let this be a lesson to all. Don’t do changes to your pages while you’re watching TV and eating chips and salsa. I haven’t had a chance to put the web ring back yet. It should be back by tonight though. Thanks, Barrie.

July 18, 2003

Sorta Spacey I just saw this on my cable’s digital guide. Tonight’s 48 Hours Mystery is supposed to be about the woman who was accused of murdering her husband and then staging the murder to look like a scene from American Beauty. 10pm EST on CBS.

July 15, 2003

The Life of David Gale While the movie comes to home video in North America next week, it’s just getting ready for a limited release this month in Japan.

The United States of Leland Disappointing news, Spacey fans. It appears that TUSOL is not going to be out in September after all. New release date information on the TUSOL news page. Link above.

Thanks for those two movie items, Kotomi.

Beyond The Sea I’ve made a new entrance page for the Darin film. The news page link is still the same but now when you go one page “up” from that, it will take you to the Beyond The Sea News feature presentation page instead of the Spacey Direction page.

July 12, 2003

Speaking of Pay It Forward, TNT is showing commercials for the film. The commercial announces the network premier of the movie on August 3.

July 10, 2003

I added the old TIME magazine article about Pay It Forward to the PIF section. It can also be found through the Articles and Interviews main page. Or you can go here. From October of 2000.

July 8, 2003

In Style magazine, May 2003 issue I missed this a few months ago. It was in the section that has pictures of celebrities who are dressed in similar clothes and comments on them. This time, there are photos of Marisa Tomei, Jennifer Lopez, Tomiko Fraser and Tracee Ellis Ross all wearing jumpsuits (thankfully, no photo of Kevin in a jumpsuit) for street clothes and for red carpet fashions. What does that have to do with anything Spacey, you ask?

the Look

jump for coy Here’s a look that doesn’t die, no matter how many times common sense tries to kill it. As comfortable as jumpsuits may be, rarely are they kind to all parts of your anatomy. Dress them up, and they come off more studied than Kevin Spacey. Those who predict the future often see us in them. We just can’t get past it.

From yesterday’s Evening Standard (UK paper, gossip page)

Tom Stoppard’s garden party, held every other year at the Chelsea Physic Garden, took place last Saturday. In attendance, Sinead Cusack, Kevin Spacey, John Cleese, Tim Rice, Bob Geldof, Judi Dench, Harold Pinter, Antonia Fraser, David Hare and David Gilmour. Only politician – Peter Mandelson ‘looking particular dapper in a pair of pink golfing trousers and a mushroom brown shirt’. Mandy was seen chatting with Gwynnie, Ben Okri and the Daily Telegraph proprietor – Lord Black.  Some guests were unhappy re absence of the caviar stand – ‘a popular attraction at Stoppard parties’.

Only the toes knows .. Here’s the answer to the question from a few days ago. He (Mel Proffitt in Wiseguy) inserted a drug needle between his toes in order to get high and keep people from seeing track marks. A lot of drug users do this. Only his toes would know because people do not generally look at feet or in between toes for signs of drug usage.

Thanks for the info!

July 6, 2003

Small item but it’s all there is Washington Post, Metro section, page C11, Your Voices column (readers answering a monthly question).

Do today’s films accurately portray religious faith?

<snip> Some filmmakers, probably without meaning to, show the consequences of a lack of religious faith. An example is the cynicism of “Chicago”; another is the despair in “American Beauty.” <snip>

July 5, 2003

Kevin on TV I just read on one of my other accounts that Kevin is going to be on Entertainers tomorrow. It’s the show with Byron Allen. It’s on at strange times due to being a syndicated show so you’ll have to track it down. It’s showing in my area at 3:35AM. I don’t know if it’s a repeat or a first run episode. *It was a repeat of his David Gale interview. He looked nice in a dark suit, his hair formed a peak and he spent a lot of time with his hand on his chin almost covering his mouth the way Quoyle did in the book version of The Shipping News.

bunnyAnswers to feedback questions: The bunny suit photo .. *is* Kevin. It was in a book called “Guess Who?” and Kevin was one of over 170 celebrities photographed by Peggy Sirota, in various forms of disguise. All of the proceeds from the sale of the book went to an L.A. AIDS charity. The book was available several years ago.

“Only the toes knows.” .. was a line from Wiseguy, the Stephen J. Cannell show that Kevin was in back in the 1980’s. I don’t remember what he was referring to. It’s been a long time since I saw the Proffit arc that it came from. Anyone want to remind me?

I’ve been so busy scanning old stuff that I didn’t have a chance to make a holiday picture for the news page, so I’ve recycled one from previous years. Have a safe and happy Independence Day! Oh, and it’s Wrong Trousers Day in the United Kingdom.

July 3, 2003

Polls I added a new poll to the Polls section and deleted three others to make room for more. The pictures on the confirmation pages of the deleted polls have been moved to the Photographs section and the results links for those polls have been put at the bottom of the Polls main page.

Making mental notes So, I was going to add something to the Spacey Drive-thru section when I decided to see if what I was going to post had already been posted. I happened across item #34 and for the life of me, I can’t figure out what I was going to add “a few days later”. Does anyone know what it was I made a mental note of and then forgot all about? It was from December. Scroll down that page to find #34.

June 30, 2003

For the fan who asked COBB stands for Cobb. Kevin’s Trigger Street Productions produced a play about baseball player Ty Cobb and the flier uses all capital letters. That play is here.

June 29, 2003

Katharine Hepburn I just read that screen legend Katharine Hepburn has died. She was 96. Kevin has told stories of their meeting and of their mail correspondence. He never told the story that Gary Sinise told on the Conan O’Brien show though. Makes me laugh every time I think about it.

Old Vic news One of Kevin’s UK fans has told me that she caught a Michael Parkinson radio show today and that Kevin’s old The Iceman Cometh cast mate Tim Pigott-Smith was on, and he was telling a few stories about Kevin and Iceman. He told of how they were appearing at the Almeida and the Old Vic in TIC, and all the actors shared one dressing room and it really helped the atmosphere. When they moved to Broadway, Kevin had the walls knocked down so they could share the dressing room area again, when he could have had a star’s dressing room all to himself. Now for the Old Vic news.. Tim says that Kevin will be devoting 5 years, full time (!) to the Old Vic. Directing one or two plays a year and then acting in some. I haven’t heard the interview yet, but it will be found on Parkinson’s web site.

Thanks, Vivienne.

Site Updates I’ve removed the David Gale news link from this page. You can access it from the Movie section or from the News archives page.

I’ve added a new Old Vic section to the theater part of the site. I added an old article about Kevin from 2000 but I don’t know who the writer was. If anyone knows, I’d appreciate knowing so I can add the name.

Plus, I streamlined the COBB page and added an old news item about the funding of the play. Does anyone remember how that small controversy over the competing productions turned out?

A few months ago I added a diary written by Tim Pigott-Smith to the Iceman section. It was written for a London newspaper back in 1999. I think it’s only half of the diary though. Does anyone have part 2? I think I got that off of the old Spaceyland message board about, oh, 4 years ago.

I also added an old article to the Big Kahuna Articles page. Second article on the page. The writer wishes he’d asked Kevin if becoming a movie star is making it harder for him to remain an actor.

June 27, 2003

Just in time for next week’s Independence Day celebration: If you missed it when it was on TV a few years ago, you can still watch a clip online. Kevin and other actors reciting the Declaration of Independence.

**link no longer works

Thanks, Mick.

Beyond The Sea There’s been a small item added to the Darin News page.

June 24, 2003

It may be summer, but Kevin is probably feeling a chill in the air again. I think this is a repeat from a few months ago, but now it’s being posted in Australia:

Spacey on the outer By Renee Graham

K-PAX, why don’t you email Gene Brewer and ask him if he has a mailing address? His email addy is on his own site. Darrow is listed on the IMDB as being available on DVD and VHS in the UK and Germany, but as far as I know it’s not available in the US, unless you can find a copy on ebay. When You Remember Me doesn’t seem to be available in any format, anywhere. I guess you will have to wait until it shows up on TV again, which it does from time to time.

June 20, 2003

Old Vic Anybody have some big bucks laying around going unused? Here are a few new articles about the Old Vic which include some mentions of Kevin:

Elton’s key change to West End stage Musician commissions play based on Queen’s intruder ordeal as Old Vic welcomes Billy Elliot by Fiachra Gibbons, arts correspondent

and this from the Financial Times: Old Vic seeks £2m for ‘Billy Elliot’ musical by By Peter Aspden, Arts Correspondent

Thanks to Mick and Borislava.

June 16, 2003

The Life of David Gale home video According to the new releases board at my local Hollywood Video, the film will be in the store on July 8, but everything else I’ve read (including the official movie site) shows the date as July 22.

Premiere magazine I didn’t find any references to Kevin in the July/August issue. He wasn’t listed as one of the actors who’s “naughty by nature” such as Walken and Dafoe, and he isn’t a sexy “weathered man” like Chris Cooper or Harvey Keitel, and no mention of him as a sexy bald actor or as being “geek chic” such as Jeff Goldblum or Steve Buscemi. He  wasn’t even mentioned in the humor piece about Henry & June. Movieline had him on the cover of their sex issue but he can’t even get his name mentioned in the Premiere issue. Shocking.

There was one thing for Spacey scrapbookers though. On page 97 is a full page add from Budweiser congratulating the Tribeca Film Festival participants and

June 14, 2003

MPTF update This is for anyone who sent a donation to the Motion Picture & Television Fund as part of the group of Spacey fans who were sending a donation in memory of Kevin’s mother, who passed away a few months ago. The donation was mailed earlier in the week and confirmation of receipt has come from the MPTF. The total was $450. Thank you to Linda for doing that for everyone.

June 8, 2003

It’s hard to believe that it was 4 years ago tonight that I was in NYC for Iceman. We were watching the Tony Awards on TV at the hotel and the next night, I went to the play with my sister who wishes to remain anonymous. Unfortunately, Kevin didn’t win the Tony that year. He’s also not listed as a presenter this evening.

I’ve been told that Ordinary Decent Criminal can be found for less than $10 at WalMart. The movie was so much fun when it had to be bought as a used Irish rental and then converted into a compatible format. Now you can just walk into a store and buy it. Thanks, Bree.

I fixed the link to the January-April 2003 News archives page that was on the News Archives list page.

A DVD tip for fans of movies that don’t have Kevin in them .. The Ghost and Mr. Chicken is finally going to be released on DVD later in the year. Atta boy, Luther!

June 5, 2003

June 3, 2003

I haven’t updated the site since last week because I’ve had a very bad cold, but I’ve updated the polls and am now picking through the spam emails offering me prescriptions for Viagra, various body enlargements and help with my septic system, looking for Spacey related emails. I’ll update the various news pages tonight or tomorrow morning. In my fevered state I had an idea for a new poll. I hope to have that ready by the weekend.

May 29, 2003

Kevin will be hosting a small fundraiser on June 29th, at Windsor Castle, in celebration of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Merry Wives of Windsor which is soon to open at the Old Vic. There will be evensong at St. George’s Chapel followed by drinks and dinner in the castle.

That sounds “invitation only”, doesn’t it?

May 27, 2003

Daily Record This sounds like fun. Is Kevin free in July?

You’re A Celebrity – Toss Me A Caber TOURISTS chiefs are trying to lure Hollywood’s hottest stars to Scotland by offering them a Highland fling.

They want to give the freedom of a Highland games to stars whose birthdays coincide with gatherings in the north-east.

Among those invited are Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, tennis babe Anna Kournikova and Bond girl Halle Berry.

Also lined up by the Aberdeen and Grampian Tourist Board are movie stars Helen Mirren, Hugh Grant, Kevin Spacey and Sandra Bullock, Friends star Courteney Cox-Arquette, comedian Stephen Fry and pop idol Prince.

Local tourist chief Ian Dunlop said: “We have the highest concentration of Highland games anywhere in the world here and it is very much part of our culture and heritage.”

Celebrities have already transformed caber tossing and hammer throwing into the latest in- thing.

Scots comic Billy Connolly sparked the revival with his showbiz clan gathering at the Lonach Games near his holiday home on Strathdon, in Aberdeenshire.

Thanks, Mick.

David Gale Some new links related to Kevin in the David Gale news section. Thank you, anonymous tipster.

Totally unrelated to Kevin Finally! The original version of The Haunting, with Julie Harris, comes to DVD. Early August, movie fans.

In our special Oscar Issue in March, we asked you to vote for your favorite of all the Academy Award winners for Best Supporting Actor and Actress. The envelope please.

The top vote-getters: Kevin Spacey, who nabbed his Best Supporting Oscar for playing a mysterious, club-footed criminal named Verbal in 1995 ‘s The Usual Suspects, and Dame Judi Dench, who won for her brief but compelling performance as Queen Elizabeth I in 1998 ‘s Shakespeare in Love. Close behind Spacey were Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive, 1993) and Denzel Washington (Glory, 1989). Runners-up to Dench were Meryl Streep (Kramer vs. Kramer, 1979) and Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost, 1990)..

All six finalists are, of course, also famed for their leading roles – which only proves that talent is unmistakable, in large parts or small. Since he shot to stardom in Suspects, for example, Spacey received a BestActor Oscar for 1999’s American Beauty and played the lead in such other films as Pay It Forward, The Shipping News, and, most recently, The Life of David Gale. Equally at home onstage, he also headlined New York and London productions of Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh and earlier this year was named artistic director of London’s fabled Old Vic Theatre.

Born July 26, 1959, in South Orange, New jersey, Kevin Spacey Fowler studied at Manhattan’s prestigious Juilliard School. Recently his company, Trigger Street Productions, developed a program to nurture new screenwriting, acting, and directing talent. “I believe very strongly,” he says, “that if you’ve done well in your profession your obligation is to spend about half your time sending the elevator back down-to help others fulfill themselves.”

Thank you, anonymous tipster.

The Guardian People just can’t get enough of that thinning hair and Kevin’s manly chest. I think his fans are to be thanked for that! There’s a new article about American actors and British theatre. Here’s the Spacey part.

The West End is great for US actors needing a career makeover. But are these stars good for the West End? By Stuart Jeffries Kevin Spacey Starring as: Travelling salesman in Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh at the Almeida Theatre in 1998. Who is he again? Oscar-winning actor (American Beauty, LA Confidential) and film director (Albino Alligator) with a long theatrical pedigree, thinning hair and an unexpectedly buffed chest. Why he is (still) doing it: “I’m an anglophile, let’s face it.” Credibility rating: 9/10 What the critics said: “Most Hollywood film stars chancing it on the London stage twinkle dimly, all personality shrivelled. To this regularity, Spacey is a ripe exception … His Hickey breezes into the saloon to take charge of lost souls, all the while oozing a charm and bonhomie that mask fanaticism.” Nicholas de Jongh, London Evening Standard It’s great to be in London, England: “Most American actors worth their salt want to come here and prove themselves and face the challenge the British stage offers,” he said when he took over as director of the Old Vic earlier this year. “I hope this new venture will help to continue to strengthen the cultural bridge.”

The Life of David Gale David Gale is trying to escape almost certain death in Australia now. There are some review and article links at the David Gale news page link above. All links thanks to Kim.

Kevin’s hair I thought I’d update everyone on one of the greatest qualities that Kevin brings to his acting and that is the styling of his hair. According to the hair poll (which continues to be one of the most active even after all this time by the way) Kevin’s fans like it short, the hairline to be receding, the combover to be towards the side, although the combover forming a peak is also enjoyed quite a bit. We’re evenly divided on the gel/mousse issue, more people prefer the bald spot to the bald spot being covered up, brown is the color most preferred along with graying at the temples. His facial hair has been studied quite a bit with most of the votes going to the stubble look over the clean shaven face, although not by much. It can go either way, apparently. No hats wins out over hats. And the biggest vote grabber of them all is his visible chest hair. That had 372 votes as compared to the lowest ranking selection which was his orange-y red hair in The Shipping News which only garnered 36 votes. I wouldn’t do that again, Kevin.

In Style June 2003 issue. Page 190, tiny picture of Kevin which my scanner doesn’t seem to want to scan properly. Truth or Tabloid column.

Basket Bards The report: The Star also says that at a recent Lakers game, Kevin Spacey and Mel Gibson traded Hamlet couplets in the VIP lounge.

The truth: “It wasn’t in the VIP lounge, it was mid-court – just kidding!” says a Lakers rep, who debunks the story. Adds Spacey’s rep, “Kevin hasn’t been to a Lakers game anytime this year and hasn’t been with Mel Gibson doing any Shakespeare riffing.” Gibson’s rep also denied the report, saying he has been in Italy shooting The Passion.  – Jeryl Brunner

There was also a sighting of Kevin’s name in an article about the tribute to Billy Crystal in NYC a few months ago. He was listed as one of the guests who paid tribute to Crystal that night. No Spacey pics though.

May 7, 2003 Celebrities launch Wrong Trousers Day

A new fundraising day calling on people to wear the wrong trousers for charity has been launched – with the backing of a host of celebrities. Wallace and Gromit’s Wrong Trouser Day will take place every year on the first Friday of July.

Recorded messages from a host of celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore and Natalie Imbruglia called on volunteers to take part in the event.

Other celebrities, including Russell Crowe, Mel Gibson, Jonathan Ross, Ant and Dec, Blue, Angelina Jolie and Graham Norton have donated their own trousers to the cause.

It is aimed at raising money for children’s hospitals and hospices throughout the UK.

The fund-raising concept inspired by the award-winning film The Wrong Trousers, made by Bristol-based Aardman Animations, award winning asks volunteers to pay a £1 donation to wear the wrong trousers for the day.

The cast of Coronation Street, as well as Frank Skinner and David Baddiel and Westlife have taken part in photo shoots wearing “the wrong trousers”.

Wrong Trousers Day was set up by the charity Wallace and Gromit’s Children’s Foundation after the concept had success in the south west of England.

For the past six years in the region, Wrong Trousers Day has been part of Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, which has helped to raise £12 million to rebuild the Royal Hospital for Children in Bristol.

This year it is hoped the nation-wide day on July 4 will raise money for local hospitals throughout the UK.

Vanity Fair, Letter to the Editor June 2003 issue. Regarding the cover of the 2003 Hollywood Issue. I MUST wholeheartedly disagree with your cover for its neglecting to include one of the greatest actors of this, or any, generation: Kevin Spacey. As a gentleman, intellectual, and mentor, he stands tall in the sea of Hollywood mediocrity. EMMELINE GREENE Orange County, Vermont.

Tribeca Film Festival Kevin attended the screening of the short films. He was dressed casually in jeans, a beige jacket, white shirt, and a baseball cap covering rapidly graying (and thinning, I’ll bet!) hair. He was reported to be enjoying himself, had trouble with the names of the filmmakers, used his favorite word (F***) and mispronounced yet another word in the endearing way he has.

Thank you, anonymous fan.

Site revisions I’ve been working on the site page links page again and now it’s a really big mess, however, I’ve managed to make some changes and add some things. I’ve put all the News from January through to April 1, 2003 on to a new page in the News Archives. You can access that page here.

UFO Does anyone remember that old British sci-fi television show called UFO? I hadn’t seen it in many, many years and yesterday I found the UFO Second Set on DVD. I’ve watched one of the discs and I’m thinking .. (dramatic pause worthy of Mr. Edgar of Manor House inserted here) .. feature film remake .. Kevin Spacey .. as Ed Straker?
