I’m hearing that Bimbo’s is being deluged with phone calls from people wanting to know if Kevin is going to be appearing on December 5. As I reported yesterday, Bimbo’s told me that he will NOT be appearing there. So there’s no need to call them. The ad at anytickets.com was a mistake which has also been confirmed by another source.
August 30, 2005
Anytickets.com is showing a Kevin Spacey concert at Bimbo’s 365 Club in SF on Monday, December 5 although tickets are not available online. Thanks to Linda for that info.
However… Bimbo’s told me in reply to an inquiry about a rumored concert in December, that there is no return engagement by Kevin Spacey scheduled. Is there more than one musically inclined Kevin Spacey perhaps?
Curiouser and curiouser. Also thanks to J. and J.
August 29, 2005
Exciting rumors are swirling that Kevin may be hitting the road again for another Bobby Darin concert tour after he finishes his Old Vic Theatre commitments for 2005. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
August 26, 2005
I’ve been told that December 30, 2005 may be the release date for Edison. Thanks to Jodie for the info.
Saturday night’s movie chat will feature Beyond The Sea.
August 23, 2005
Edison news – Edison, the only Spacey film we currently have to look forward to until Superman Returns is released in very late June 2006, will close out the Toronto Film Festival. This is especially surprising news since many fans had started to think it was going straight to home video. Maybe it’s going to be released in theaters after all.
The festival ends on September 17.
Thanks to Carla and Joanna.
From Spacey fan Rachael ‘The Green Room – Celebrities behind closed doors’ in the Metro newspaper in London on Friday 19th August had the following: “Hollywood star Kevin Spacey goes on about his artistic menu as director of the Old Vic – but he is a closet Desperate Housewives fan. ‘I got to meet the girls. Wow, that was a real high,’ he said ‘I never miss the show’.”
August 18, 2005
Kevin is going to be interviewed at some point this next TV season on a PBS TV show out of Houston called InnerViews. Don’t know when though. You might be lucky enough to pick it up on your own local PBS station. I don’t seem to get that show. Thanks to Joanne for the tip.
Saturday night’s movie chat will showcase Consenting Adults.
August 13, 2005
I’ve added a few things to the Old Vic news page that some of you may have seen already, but maybe you haven’t.
August 12, 2005
I forgot to pick a movie for tomorrow night’s movie chat. I guess we can find *something* to talk about even if there’s no movie.
Spacey fan Joanna (UK) tells me that Kevin Spacey made Yahoo’s Top 100 Hunks list! Can you guess what number he is?
Spacey fan Linda (no, not *that* Linda, another Linda) tells me that there is a TUS reference in the new Dukes of Hazzard film. She tells me:
One of the Duke boys, talks to his brother telling him ” She pulled a KEYZER SOZE on me, and LIKE THAT…. SHE WAS GONE.”
August 11, 2005
Burning question for any Aussie fans out there. Was Beyond The Sea ever released in the theaters there? *No it wasn’t. Thanks to Jo for that info.
August 9, 2005
Have you noticed it’s taking me a long time to get caught up on the polls, feedbacks, site mail and news tips? I’m trying!
Can you believe that this time last year, we were anxiously awaiting info on Beyond The Sea’s release?
In response to the unreturnable burning question feedback last week, I’m sorry but Kevin doesn’t have an official fan club at this time.
August 5, 2005
Movie chat for August 6 will be the dreaded (by me) American Beauty. I can clip my toenails or clean out my desk drawers while everyone else watches the movie. It’s been seared into my brain so I don’t have to watch it. I’ll try to control my typing finger but I can’t make any promises.
I was going to post this on the Edison news page, but no one would have found it if I had. Rumor on the IMDB says that Edison had it’s world premiere last week. In Greece! Is this possible?
Spacey fan Ursula sent me the following link last week. It’s a small preview clip of the film.
Answer to burning question feedback: Kevin Spacey doesn’t have an official fan club.
July 30, 2005
I haven’t been doing much to keep the site updated or the site mail answered over the past 3 or 4 days because there was a death in my family earlier in the week, but I’ll try to answer everyone’s mail and update the site with all the various links and Spacey news bits that people have sent to me, in a few days.
July 26, 2005
Some pictures of Kevin as Lex Luthor have surfaced. SR News page.
July 25, 2005
Must be someone’s birthday tomorrow. I’m posting the annual News page site card since it’s tomorrow in Australia already. And no, for those who have asked, I don’t know if he ever got last year’s birthday books. It’s a mystery!
Is anyone interested in a Spacey birthday chat tomorrow night for a little while? Chat room any time after 8pm EST. Chat
July 23, 2005
I’ve added a few new things, and pages, to the Superman Returns section. Link above.
July 22, 2005
Hmmm… so far, the Kevin’s Usual Sequel poll results are as close as Kevin Spacey’s bald spot and receding hairline.
July 19, 2005
If you like your Spacey movies to consist of Kevin standing around looking good in his clothes, eating gray hamburgers and talking about arms sales to the Middle East, then Doomsday Gun is the movie for you and it’s gonna be out on Region 1 DVD on August 30. Amazon lists a $10 price.
Beyond the Sea comes to Pay per View on Friday.
July 18, 2005
Not Spacey related. Did anyone catch last night’s ‘Mystery’ on PBS? Who done it? I was watching the Inspector Lynley mystery and my cat decided to torture me near the end of the show and when I came back, it was over.
Scary blast from the past Kevin Spacey in See No Evil, Hear No Evil. July 23 on Comedy Central at 10AM. Blame Bree for that frightening piece of Spacey news!
Chat Saturday night’s movie chat will be A Time To Kill.
TUS Sequel There’s a new poll. Kevin’s Usual Sequel. Is Kevin Spacey doing a rumored TUS sequel a good idea or bad idea?
Reality show. You can find a trailer for the Going Hollywood reality show on the Triggerstreet.com MOBLOG. It requires Quicktime 6.5 and TS.com membership to watch it. I couldn’t get it to work but was told that there were a few Buddy Ackerman scenes. *Spacey fan Janet tells me you don’t need membership to access the MOBLOG.
Thanks to Ursula.
July 12, 2005
BTS DVD. Spacey fan Kotomi tells me that Beyond The Sea will be available on DVD in Japan in October. And as expected, Edison is showing an R rating at the IMDb.
TUS sequel. Contactmusic.com says Kevin is DESPERATE to do a TUS sequel.
Spacey, who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in the thriller, is desperate to team up with co-stars GABRIEL BRYNE, BENICIO DEL TORO and PETE POSTLETHWAITE for the possible sequel, and is waiting for Singer’s decision on the project.
Ok.. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn’t seen The Usual Suspects, but a few of those actors did not quite make it to the end of the film and since it’s been 10 years since they made the movie, everyone would look a bit long in the tooth in any scenes involving flashes to the past. Does anyone want to see another batch of Spacey reviews that call him too old and wrinkled? No, I didn’t think so.
July 11, 2005
With Kevin in Australia there’s just nothing to report on so today will be Internet Rumor and Personal Observations Day. First we have some Internet rumor – Spacey fans Ruth, Donna K. & Joanie send me this item:
Spacey for sequel
From Sydney Confidential
KEVIN Spacey will need to grow that hair back in a bit of a hurry – he’s signed on for a sequel to The Usual Suspects.
And how does Confidential know this?
He told the woman who has been serving him his coffee while he’s been in Sydney – and nobody gets better goss than baristas.
Apparently he’s told Superman director Bryan Singer, who also directed The Usual Suspects, he’ll work with him on the sequel to the 1995 film.
Bald as an egg, Spacey is in Sydney filming his role as Lex Luthor in Superman Returns but plans on doing some live theatre before going back to play the Suspects role. ∼
Now, the last we heard Kevin had said no to a TUS sequel but Chazz Palminteri had said yes. We shall see.
And now for a personal observation from myself – You can’t get away from Spacey references anywhere you go. As an example I give you this tidbit – Kevin Spacey’s onion is peeling it’s layers again only this time someone else is doing the peeling. A review of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Saturday’s Washington Post had this headline: ‘Layers of Loveliness From Boyd and the BSO’ and the first line went like this:
“Peeling the Onion” might have been a good title for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Thursday evening concert at Strathmore Hall.
July 5, 2005
Picture! There’s now a picture on the web of Kevin jogging in Sydney, Australia. More about that on the Superman Returns news page. Link above. Thanks to Donna for the item link.
Guess I need to work on the SR section now.
Swiped from Legacy this morning:
Sydney Morning Herald
Cameo appearance Kevin Spacey should try a new disguise. The actor, who is in Sydney to play Lex Luthor in Superman Returns, which is being filmed at Fox Studios, was among the eager fans queuing up to see War of the Worlds on Sunday night. His head shaved, Spacey was wearing an odd-looking green corduroy cap and was scurrying into the Hoyts cinema complex in the city with Brian Singer, the director of Superman Returns, who was also wearing headwear in the form of a ski cap. While most onlookers failed to recognise the powerful Hollywood duo, Spike’s operative managed to make a positive ID of the pair, who had gone to a lot of effort to appear incognito.
Um, I guess Spike’s operative doesn’t know that this wasn’t a Spacey disguise, it’s part of Kevin Spacey’s OLC (odd-looking cap) addiction. War of the Worlds’ Mr. Cruise would no doubt suggest a regimen of vitamins and exercise as a cure.
LODG on basic cable! David Gale will be making his USA Network debut on Saturday, July 9 at noon (EST) as the movie on USA’s Before & After’noon.
Thanks to Bree.
July 1, 2005
There’s just nothing going on right now so the only thing I have to report is that the BTS DVD was the call-in prize on the radio station I was listening to in the car this morning.
June 30, 2005
What is a summer holiday, picnic or barbecue without ants and grasshoppers? Saturday’s movie chat will be A Bug’s Life. 9pm EST.
I forgot to post this next bit earlier in the week. Looks like The United States of Leland is just now getting to the UK.
June 27, 2005
A fan named Chaplin tells me this: There have been polls on a lot of the Factory or Tim Burton or Johnny Depp websites about who else could play Willy Wonka. And you know, Kevin Spacey got a lot of votes. Someone just mentioned his name, and there was this great response.
That’s funny because when I was watching the trailer for Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, I was thinking that Kevin would have been a great Willy Wonka.
And Spacey fan Sonja points out that in another article, Roald Dahl’s widow had thoughts of Kevin or Daniel Day Lewis in the part.
Bet they wouldn’t have said he was too old for *that* role!
June 23, 2005
Saturday night’s chat will be The Ref. 9pm EST.
June 20, 2005
Swimming With Sharks Special Edition DVD Spacey fan Marlene tells me that the new SWS DVD has an Easter egg. You can find the info here: LINK
The SWS chat on Saturday ended up being a SWS DVD commentary chat. Was I the only one who found it a little bit strange to be “discussing” the film while Kevin Spacey was? Maybe it was just me.
Entertainment Weekly – Special Double Issue – June 24/July 1. Kate Bosworth and Brandon Routh on the cover. Page 26.
Hollywood’s West End Boys
Actors have long sought legitimacy on Broadway (hello, P. Diddy!), but lately, an increasing number of big-name American stars are hearing London calling. Here’s a look at three leading men who are currently burning up the boards across the Atlantic. -Mark Shenton
THE SHOW The Philadelphia Story (Old Vic Theatre, to Sept. 3, excluding June 20-Aug.6) THE ROLE Society lounge lizard C.K. Dexter Haven.
THE RAVE Spacey “reminded me of Jack Benny…the same dapper precision, mocking smile and immaculate comic timing” (Michael Billington, The Guardian).
THE RANT “There is always something faintly reptilian about him” (Charles Spencer, Daily Telegraph).
June 18, 2005
One of Kevin’s fans is trying to find BTS on VHS. Does anyone know of a source that has reasonable prices?
This evening’s movie for the movie chat is Swimming With Sharks. 9pm EST. Chat room
June 15, 2005
This was funny From the BostonHerald.com site.
TV: Q&A by David Inman
Q: Do you know the name of the movie that is about the life of Sandra Dee’s husband? Did Nicolas Cage play the part? Is it out on DVD?
A: This will be interesting to you, I bet. Dee’s husband, Bobby Darin, had a career of his own. He was a very popular singer and entertainer in the late 1950s and early ’60s. That’s why they decided to make a movie about his life. It’s called “Beyond the Sea.” Kevin Spacey plays Darin. And it’s on DVD.
June 13, 2005
Just a friendly little reminder – Rude and obnoxious poll responses do not get posted on the site. That’s the beauty of not having automatic polls. I get to read everything first.
Speaking of polls and things. Once again I’m backed up on the mail. I’ll be getting to that in a few days.
June 10, 2005
Did anyone seen the Edison trailer on Access Hollywood recently? Spacey fan Kotomi told me about it. The AH voiceover said that the film had a lot of buzz at Cannes (it did??) and the screen text said it is coming next year.
June 9, 2005
I’ve added 2 new polls to the Spacey Polls section. The first is ‘Kevin’s Little Sticker’ which is about the gold sticker on the back of the new BTS DVD and the second is ‘Loaded Kevin Spacey’ which asks what extras you wish had been on the DVD.
The fake Spacey book cover that had been at the top of the page is now down the screen with the news update for May 12.
June 8, 2005
The Swimming With Sharks 10th Anniversary Special Edition offers more to see and do. I started to say let’s hope the BTS 10th Anniversary Special Edition DVD has all the stuff we’d been hoping for yesterday, but my darker side is saying maybe we should just hope to be lucky enough to *get* a BTS 10th Anniversary Special Edition DVD in the future!
Anyhoo…this picture of Buddy Ackerman on the back of an EQUAL sweetener packet is from the back of the DVD. It’s much larger than the pic on the back cover but I thought I’d share the enlargement because this is a Spacey hair we’ve never seen before.
There’s a BTS trailer on the SWS DVD.
The SWS movie chat will be on Saturday night, June 18.
Spacey fan Isis tells me that the June issue of FILM magazine says Kevin’s top 5 favorite films are:
- Sullivan’s Travels (1941)
- An American In Paris (1951)
- Lawrence Of Arabia (1962)
- Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967)
- The Godfather (1972)
Plus, the magazine’s readers voted a certain Spacey scene in LA Confidential one of the greatest scenes in movie history. Don’t wanna give away more than that for new fans who may not have seen the film, but the rest of you know what I mean.
June 7, 2005
Do you want the good news or the bad news?
The good news first. In spite of the airbrushed Kevin Spacey on the cover of the new BTS DVD, they haven’t digitally enhanced him in the film. He’s the Kevin Spacey his fans expect to see.
The bad news is… I bought the DVD at Target this morning and unless they’ve hidden them somewhere and aren’t going to tell us where they are, there are no bonus musical numbers by Kevin Spacey that have been advertised in a few places, such as Amazon.com. No deleted musical numbers that Kevin himself said were going to be on the DVD.
The DVD was going for $20 at Target. It’s widescreen, offers Spanish subtitles, has an audio commentary and a making of featurette that includes a few interviews with other cast members and Kevin Spacey. The only BTS trailer I’m aware of was one for the soundtrack. The others are for other Lions Gate films. If I’ve missed anything Spacey related, I’m sure someone will let me know.
There’s going to be a BTS movie chat on Saturday night. 9PM EST.
I completely forgot to look for the new SWS Special Edition DVD while I was at Target and mine won’t be coming in the mail for a few days so I have nothing to add about that yet.
June 5, 2005
Spacey fan Isis tells me that according to the ‘Mail on Sunday’, May 22, 2005, Sally Greene (Old Vic), is trying to persuade Kevin to do a Bobby Darin gig at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
June 3, 2005
The BTS DVD will be hitting the stores next week, as well as the new special edition Swimming With Sharks. Any new info about the BTS DVD will be found on the BTS news page. There’s a review of the DVD from Entertainment Weekly there now. Link above.
There’s a Kevin Spacey/American Beauty reference in the new Madagascar animated film. It involves a zoo lion dreaming of food as red steaks float down towards him with the music from AB playing in the background. I won’t say more. Thanks to BA.
June 2, 2005
Someone was the 250,000th hit on the site’s entrance page hit counter today.
There’s news that even Kevin Spacey has now succumbed to the reality series craze which I had hoped had about run it’s course but apparently hasn’t. He’s supposed to be in a new eight-part series on The Learning Channel this fall about Hollywood interns to the stars. It will be called Going Hollywood. The
last item I read said the interns were going to be contestants so I guess that means we’re gonna see interns being voted off the elevator at Trigger Street at some point. The series also stars Robert Evans (does anyone remember him as the cad in The Best of Everything many years ago?) and Method Man. No word yet on when it’s to start or if it’s been filmed already, seeing how the show takes place in Hollywood and Kevin Spacey ain’t gonna be there in the fall.
Kevin will be on Jane Pauley’s show tomorrow. It’s the repeat from the BTS TV press tour. He has the full hour. Bad news is the show is syndicated and some stations will be pre-empting the show for live tennis.
We’re going to try another Looking For Richard movie chat on Saturday night.
May 24, 2005
I’m going to be on vacation from the web site this week so won’t be doing daily updates, unless something absolutely incredible happens that needs to be posted right away. I’ll be checking my mail though and will add any updates later in the week.
A mid-run temporary TPS replacement for Kevin while he works on the Superman Returns film has been announced. More on the Old Vic news page. Link above.
This nice picture was in a publication of the Motion Picture & Television Fund Foundation called LEGACY. Kevin is pictured with Bobbi Farrell, a resident of the MPTF’s Wasserman Campus, before a screening of Beyond The Sea.
K-PAX movie chat on Saturday night if Bravenet cooperates.
Did we miss something? While looking around to see where SWS and BTS will be available in a few weeks, I came across a PBS documentary called ‘Fighting For Freedom: Revolution and Civil War’ and it lists Kevin as one of the many narrators.
May 21, 2005 I
I’m going to watch Looking For Richard during the chat tonight if anyone wants to watch it with me. Bring your own tape and we can wonder aloud if they’re going to put that on DVD before our tapes keel over. *We’ll have to look for Richard another night. Bravenet’s chats weren’t working.
May 17, 2005
Kevin was in Cannes on Sunday, attending to Trigger Street business or attending to Trigger Street partying, I’m not completely sure which. There are thumbnail pics at Wireimage.com. I’m not gonna say a word about the hat. Except for this… it is a testament to his charisma that he can wear this hat and still have Hawaiian Tropic models looking thrilled to be seen and photographed with him. Thanks to Susan and Marie.
May 16, 2005
I hate to be a killjoy here (not really, but it sounds better) but I will not be posting the picture floating around of Kevin Spacey giving the finger to a photographer when leaving the Billy Elliott opening night party last week. Obscene hand gestures don’t make the cut around here. Don’t make me use the “O” word for the second time in a week, Mr. Spacey!
New poll coming soon. Kevin Gets a Tattoo. Going by how many are choosing the martini choice on the Kevin Gardens poll, I should have a poll asking if fans think he prefers his martinis shaken or stirred!
May 14, 2005
Due to popular request, the Kevin Gardens poll has been dusted off for the season, replacing the Frozen Spacey poll while I come up with a brand new poll.
Greetings from Brazil and the Festival Kevin Spacey! One of Kevin’s Brazilian fans has sent a TV alert for fans in Brazil or those with a strong satellite! Daniella says:
The SBT Channel (the second most viewed TVchannel in Brazil) is airing The Kevin Spacey Festival every Saturday at 23:30. It started last week,
14/05: The Negotiator
21/05: The Ref
28/05: L. A. Confidential
Here is the link for those interested. It has pictures, trailers and the summary (in Portuguese) of each film.
Awww.. I went and looked at the link and the picture they use for LAC looks like that glossy I sent 6 years ago to be autographed and never got back. The white sleeve just seemed to be begging for an autograph.
May 12, 2005
Time out for a trashy gossip item! Spacey fan Joanna tells me she saw this in the UK tabloid ‘The Sun’ and its ‘The Whip’ column:
‘I have it on good authority that Hollywood star Kevin Spacey is keeping a diary to get even with those London scribes. Spacey, a bachelor, is not too happy with some of the reviews of the Old Vic theatre in London which he runs. And add to that the press coverage of his mysterious mugging in a London park. “He is being urged to spill details about his sex life,” says my publishing mole.” ~
I love the way they use the word “bachelor” don’t you?
Star Wars tie-in. For all the fans who missed the SNL that Kevin hosted which included the oft mentioned Star Wars auditions, E! will be showing it on May 19 at 4pm EST. One of these days someone will show the full 90 minute show and not just the hour long repeat.
Question Does anyone know the name of the song and the singer of it, at the end of ODC?
May 11, 2005
A Shipping News movie chat is scheduled for Saturday evening. 9pm est. Bring your own film and popcorn.
Looks like we’re not going to be seeing Kevin in this country for a very long time. His next play at the Old Vic starts just 10 days after TPS ends and will run until the end of November. November! Even if Edison comes out in the meantime, he obviously won’t be doing any US TV shows and really, is anyone breathlessly waiting for that movie to hit the theaters? I didn’t think so.
On the other hand, less than a month now until the new SWS and BTS DVDs hit the stores. Can’t wait.
I’m told that there is a fabulous interview (audio only) with Kevin on the new LDJIN DVD. Thanks for letting us know, Kelly.
May 7, 2005
This just in from The Philadelphia Story! Reports say that Kevin is clean-shaven and wears a hairpiece over his bald spot during the play but still has the rest of his hair. No word on whether he has a new hat for the stage door. Thanks Jen.
New old pics. I’ve added a K-PAX awards consideration ad to the K-PAX pictures page. It’s the one where he’s holding the green viewer. Have we seen the one above before? It was taken at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier in the year where Kevin received the Sonny Bono Visionary Award. Pictured with Kevin are Samuel L. Jackson; Earl Greenburg, Board Chairman; and Congresswoman Mary Bono. The picture was on page 36 of the April 2005 Harpers Bazaar. Thanks to Mystery Mailer.
May 6, 2005
The BobbyDarin.net site has an exclusive interview with Roger Kellaway, who we all recall was Kevin’s musical director on the BTS concert tour. He has some things to say about Kevin and the tour near the end of the interview. Thanks to Carla.
May 5, 2005
Most of the new updates have been to the Old Vic section.
May 3, 2005
There’s a new submission to the Writer’s Room in the Spacey Gallery. Click on Kevin’s head to find it. Thanks to Cynthia for her story.
May 1, 2005
No new news today. Most of the updates I’ve done lately have been on the Old Vic News page. Link above.
I’ve moved the news for January through April to the News Archives to make room for the next 4 months of news.
