Strange Spacey Internet news item of the week
Spacey Splashes Out On Beauty Cream
Oscar-winning actor KEVIN SPACEY spent a whopping $341 (GBP175) on anti-wrinkle creams during a New York shopping trip. But the American Beauty star will not be using the luxury beauty products himself because he made the purchase for friends. He says, “I was buying a bunch of products for the girls in production… I was buying, but it wasn’t for myself. Now we have demystified that!”
Ok. I sure hope this is one of those goofy web things because first, someone old enough to need anti-wrinkle cream deserves to be called a woman not a girl. Second, I’d hate to think Kevin would blab to a stranger that the women who work with him are wrinkled to the point that he has to do something about it and third, how many jars would you need to pay $350 for any kind of face cream?

Moon is reviewed in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly. They seemed to like it. As for Kevin, it starts with “his hammy, warp-speed take on Jim Tyrone seems almost sacrilegious. Yet Spacey is so eerily right for the role.”

Lordy, it’s cold!
I’m very sorry if anyone clicked on an old link on one of the movie pages and had the surprise of finding themselves on a porn site instead of looking at pictures of Kevin Spacey. I assume the movie studio either sold the domain or let its registration lapse and someone else snapped it up. I think I’ve found the links that were in various places on this site and have deleted them all. I’ve found 10 so far. A very grateful thanks to Jennifer for letting me know.
I’ve been told that there’s an article about Kevin in the new issue of Time Out New York. More on that later.

Don’t forget. Tomorrow morning, Regis & Kelly.

Due to publishing problems, mainly being that any pages that start with any letters after “P” aren’t fully publishing updates, I’ve changed the old url for the calendar page to show a change from September.htm to Calendar.htm. Hopefully that will allow the calendar to update. You’ll want to make note of that if you have the page bookmarked.
I’m having site update problems. Again! Some stuff is loading but not others. I hope to have that sorted out today. I hope. *Not today!
Things to look for today:
Kevin Spacey Shoots For ‘Moon’ on Broadway. NPR interview – LINK (If the page comes up as unknown, do a quick search for Kevin Spacey, click on the link for the interview and then click on the interview. 22 minutes. – Thanks to Donna K.
Entertainment Weekly, April 13, 2007 (Sopranos on the cover) – picture w/quotes on page 24, Spotlight section. – Thanks to anonymous
NOW magazine (New York Daily News Sunday edition) – If you can still find a copy somewhere, Kevin was on the cover and there’s a new picture of him inside. – Thanks to Joanne. ComingSoon.net is showing a March 21, 2008 release date for 21. – Thanks to Kotomi.
This next interview popped up in several places but this link was provided by Spacey fan Judith. – Thanks to Judith.
And Spacey fan Barbara reminds me that Kevin and director Sam Mendes are setting up a transatlantic theatre company ‘The Bridge Project’ which will perform two works a year at the Old Vic and New York’s Brooklyn Academy of Music. Sam Mendes will direct ‘Hamlet’ ‘The Tempest’ next year plus ‘The Winters Tale’ and ‘The Cherry Orchard’ in 2009 and the hope to have Kevin appear some day in the future. – Thanks to Barbara

Happy Easter – Here’s something we don’t see every day. Kevin and Anna Nicole Smith in the same page title. The April 16, 2007 issue of Newsweek has a short Q&A with Kevin. The Anna Nicole Smith part has nothing to do with Kevin, it’s just a later part of the column.
Newsmakers: Kevin Spacey, Anna Nicole Smith
Q&A: Kevin Spacey
Spacey opens on Broadway this week in “A Moon for the Misbegotten.” He spoke to Ramin Setoodeh.
Hello. This is Ramin Setoodeh from NEWSWEEK. Hey. It’s Kevin Spacey from “A Moon for the Misbegotten.” If you get a title, I figure I could get one.
I saw the play when it was in London. The performances are excellent. I think it’s grown in the time off. It’s been a pleasure, because New York audiences have been fantastically welcoming.
Since you’re onstage every night, when do you have time to watch “American Idol”? What the f— kind of question are you asking? What kind of column is this?
I sent some examples. Didn’t they get to you? No, obviously they didn’t.
Do movie stars have to dip into their savings to do Broadway? I don’t want to talk about my finances with you. I feel like I’ve done all the silly questions I can do this morning. Asking me if I want to watch “American Idol” does seem to go down the road of a different interview than I thought it was going to be.
Why don’t you pick a topic? The upside to doing theater is you create a family. You have a shape, you have a foundation, you have a trust. It’s a little bit like — do you play sports?
Only Ping-Pong. Ping-Pong is one of the greatest games ever! I’m a Ping-Pong nut.
Do you have time to play? Constantly. I have a Ping-Pong table in my apartment in London. I love Ping-Pong.
Do you play alone? No, no. I’ve got friends to play.
They come over just to play Ping-Pong? Well, not just to play Ping-Pong. I have tournaments. Whenever I’m on location, that’s the one thing I always want, a Ping-Pong table. Here’s my point. Why is Ping-Pong so much fun? It doesn’t matter the rules are the same, it’s always a different game. That’s what doing a play is like.
Thanks to Joanne for the tip.

Kevin’s chest hair has recorded 900 votes. That is the most votes of any selection on any of the various polls. Congratulations Kevin!
April 5, 2007
The movie 21 is now officially back to being called 21.
April 3, 2007
If you missed Kevin on the Today show, you can watch his interview on the MSNBC site. Clip is here. I don’t know how long they store their videos.
April 2, 2007
THE UPDATES FINALLY PUBLISHED!!
Kevin was handsome as always on the Today show today. He was there to discuss Moon, of course. Fans have been telling me that they have been enjoying the play and that Kevin has been in a great mood at the stage door. Joking, kind and gracious and has even posed for pictures.
As you may have noticed, some of the pictures from Thursday night are not showing up on the Moon pictures page after all (So sorry Joanne). I’ve been having a problem publishing the site again. You may also have noticed that my April Fool joke is not altogether there. And it was a great joke too.
April 1, 2007
Pictures taken by fans at the stage door of the Brooks Atkinson Theater on Thursday night can now be found on the Moon pictures page. The link can be found on the Moon news page.
March 31, 2007
Spacey fan Donna K. Is telling me that according to her TV Guide, Kevin is scheduled to be on the Today Show on Monday, April 2. I don’t know which of their 3 hours will feature him.
March 30, 2007
Some fans will be spending their Saturday nights chatting with other Spacey fans instead of ogling Kevin.. er, I mean instead of enjoying an evening of fine theater, so that can only mean one thing.
I had planned to have a special American Beauty chat on May 12 but since a few regulars will be in New York City being “Mooned”, I guess we’ll have to struggle through something else. A great personal disappointment for me, as many of you know. But, what else can we do? To launch the start of the “I Wasn’t Mooned In NYC – Spring 2007 Movie Chat Festival of Fun” on March 30, I have chosen what I consider to be one of Kevin Spacey’s finest performances. Larry Mann in The Big Kahuna. The schedule for April and May can be found here.
March 29, 2007
Spacey fan Laura tells me that she has read that Kevin is scheduled to be on Live! w/Regis & Kelly on Friday, April 13th! This should be interesting. Pat Sajak is the guest host. Too bad they couldn’t have just had Kevin take Regis’ place for the show that day.
March 28, 2007
Return of Spacey Poll #20. The Kevin Gardens poll.
March 26, 2007
The Hollywood Stock Exchange is showing the movie Kevin’s been filming in Boston, 21 aka Untitled Blackjack Project, as being a March 31, 2008 release. The IMDB is showing a February 2008 release. Thanks to Kotomi for the current info.
March 25, 2007
Kevin has reportedly still been filming in Boston. Shouldn’t he be in NYC doing some kind of rehearsals for Moon? I had the impression that his role in this upcoming film was supposed to be a very small role, but it seems to be taking a long time to film his part. Honestly Kevin, wouldn’t your time right now be better spent doing the talks shows from New York so that your fans can see a little something of you? It’s been a while now, you know.
Did anyone else see the article about the new Bud.tv site that popped up during Spacey news searches a few weeks ago? It referred to Kevin’s triggerstreet.com as being TriggerHappy.com.
I emailed the writer of the article to correct that but the email came back as undeliverable. Trigger happy? A totally different meaning.
March 19, 2007
In an effort to bring something, anything, new or different, today I bring you these pictures from a fundraising mailing sent out by the MPTF late in 2006. The mailing was a note from Kevin Spacey, the MPTF Annual Fund 2006 Chairman. The full size pictures here, are a LOT bigger than the actual pictures. Now that Kevin’s fans are getting up there, I thought I’d better start enlarging the pictures to make them easier to see.
March 17, 2007
I had to reload the entire site during the night and I lost the connection to the Internet before it had finished so I’m not sure what is still here and what isn’t. The page banners and navigation buttons are back on only two pages that I’ve noticed so far, and all of the hit counters have started over at zero. I’m not sure what else may have been effected or how close the site was to being reloaded when the connection broke. I haven’t had a chance to check the polls or other forms yet. I’m going to try reloading the site again today.
March 14, 2007
AS you can see, the problem with the banners and buttons still plods on. Working on it!
March 13, 2007
Sigh. Suddenly the page banners and the navigation buttons are missing from the tops of all the pages. I think the polls are working but the feedback page is not. If anyone needs to contact me they’re just going to have to do that at email@example.com and I’ll contact the web host company to tell them their transfer to a new server seems to have run into a small problem.
March 8, 2007
I was going to update the polls and news tonight but left my papers at work. Maybe tomorrow. Kevin’s back in London it would seem.
March 6, 2007
Ok. Advance warning this time. My web host is telling me that they are going to be moving the site to a new server on Monday, March 12, and that there should be no disruption of service. If the site is suddenly offline again next week though, that will be why.
I’ve started a news page for the coming production of A Moon For the Misbegotten. Not much on it yet. You can use the Moon Over Broadway link above.
February 27, 2007
Kevin’s now filming in Boston. Or at least he was.
I’m starting my new A Moon For The Misbegotten section. So far there’s nothing but the title page. The closer we get to the play opening and Kevin’s doing interviews and things, I’ll start doing “Moon” news.
February 26, 2007
WE’RE BACK!! I HOPE!!
I’m afraid the site was offline due to matters totally beyond my control. The web host company was offline for maintenance and then when they came back on, my site didn’t and then the site was back for a brief time last night but then my password for doing site updates didn’t work when I tried to do some updates and then the site went poof again just after 8pm. I haven’t had a chance to see if everything is working yet.
This picture was apparently in the USA Today newspaper several days ago.
Kevin is rumored to be back in London. Mini was with him when he was in Las Vegas. Anonymous feedbacker #372, I have no intention of posting what you refer to. Anonymous feedbacker #437, thanks, I think. And no, I don’t have any video on the site.
February 13, 2007
The stores are carrying Superman Returns valentines but the card manufacturers are showing their obvious bias against evil and are only carrying the little cards with Superman on them so I have once again been forced to make my own greeting. Happy Valentine’s Day, Spacey fans! (OK, I know it’s a day early but I won’t have a chance to load the picture before I leave for work in the morning, weather permitting, and I don’t remember how to set the program I use to automatically change the picture at a set time.) I also put a new picture on the entrance page, if you haven’t already noticed.
February 12, 2007
Something to look forward to Kevin says he’s recorded a song for an upcoming Dean Martin CD. It’s supposed to be released on Father’s Day. I’ll post more info as the release draws closer.
Kevin participated in the Keep Memory Alive charity auction over the weekend.
February 5, 2007
Kevin continues to work in Las Vegas. Tickets for “Moon” are now available too.
In regards to snacking at theaters in New York as is being allowed at Nederlander owned theaters, which includes the Brooks Atkinson Theater… Susan Lee, the head of marketing for Nederlander, has been quoted as saying that snacks are not appropriate for inside the BAT during Moon and ushers will ask theatergoers to refrain from taking them in and there will be signs posted.
January 29, 2007
Hmmm.. If you go to the Brooks Atkinson Theater web site and click on their link to buy tickets for Moon, it’s indicating that the April 10 performance has been cancelled and refunds are being offered. No reason is given. This is at the start of the run and the tickets haven’t even gone on sale to the general public yet so they can’t have cancelled due to lack of ticket sales at this early date, so that makes me wonder if they’ve cancelled the date in order to use the theater for something else. Better be a very good reason or there’s gonna be grumbling from fans who have made hotel reservations and possibly bought plane tickets in order to plan their trips to NYC around a specific performance date. All other dates are still listed!
Kevin’s currently in Las Vegas working on the movie 21.

Remember Campari, the jet-setting poodle that was photographed with Kevin last year when he was presented with that Shakespeare award in Washington? And remember how in July in another news item about the dog’s owner, the picture the Washington Post used was the picture of Kevin holding the dog? Well, Campari made the paper again after being refused admittance to a party at the Canadian Embassy and guess which picture they used? Yep, once again our dear Mr. Spacey is a prop in a dog picture. Today’s Style section of the Washington Post, page C3, The Reliable Source column. The picture in the paper is a much smaller version of the one above.

I think we would all agree that Kevin was looking exceptionally well last night on Letterman. Am I wrong? I would also have to say that I think he used nearly every nervous habit listed on the Spacey habits poll plus a few extras. He briefly mentioned that you can buy tickets for “Moon” at Broadway.com using your American Express card, but when I did a quick check of that site this morning, on the page set aside for the play, it said tickets were not yet available.
Spacey fan Liz tells me that the Ticketmaster website shows tickets available to the general public on Feb. 3rd, beginning at 9:00 am EST. You can also get a text message reminder to your cell phone. Spacey fan Libby tells me that she stumbled across a Superman Returns popcorn tin at Blockbuster right after Christmas. It never occurred to me to look for one!
The picture of the bear is for the fans who asked to see the bear I bought at Boyds several weeks ago. I’m going to try to update the polls and answer some emails after work tomorrow night. I may even post a picture of Kevin Spacey!
January 17, 2007
Spacey fan Cathie tells me that Kevin is supposed to be on Letterman next week. Monday night, January 22.
Kevin’s Biography Channel profile is going to be on tomorrow at 9am and 3 pm, plus another showing at 4am on Friday. I don’t know if those times are for all time zones. On your digital cable guide it’s showing up as “Box Office Bio”.
American Express pre-sale tickets for “Moon” are available starting today. Fans can expect to pay from $82.50 up to $250 per ticket depending on the day of the week and the location of the seats. The $250 seat would be the center orchestra on a weekend if I’m reading right. Earlier today Ticketmaster also showed a ticket for almost $1000 but I don’t know what *that* would have been for. I do know that it’s not showing up now. Perhaps it was a mistake?

This was my cat KC. She passed away this morning at 17 1/2. Ever since she was a tiny kitten, she didn’t like having her picture taken. She had a habit of either turning her head to the side or turning her back just as you tried to take the picture. I have years of profile shots. This was taken a few weeks ago. She had turned around and faced the back of the couch as I was trying to get a picture. You can’t tell it from this shot but she had a white face, a freckle on her nose and a dark smudge on her left upper lip. Her neck and chest were white and she had orange and white stripes on her legs which ended in white feet. She never really liked to be held but she did like to be brushed, have her whiskers combed and to have the top of her head kissed. She was a shy, sweet and gentle cat and we’re going to miss her very, very much.

I guess I need to start a section for news about A Moon for the Misbegotten at the BAT. There is finally some ticket sales information available.
According to playbill.com, the play will have previews at the Brooks Atkinson Theater in New York City starting March 29 with the official opening date being April 8 and the play will have a limited run through June 10. There will be evening performances Tuesdays through Saturdays at 7pm with matinee performances on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm.
Starting January 17, tickets will be available exclusively to American Express card holders by calling (212)307-4100. The BAT box office (256 West 47th St) opens to the public on February 5.
Tickets are priced at $82.50 – $102.50 and will be available by calling (212)307-4100 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com with same-day student tickets available to those under 25 on the day of the performance at the box office for $26.50.
January 8, 2007
Uh oh! Kevin Spacey ain’t gonna like this one. It appears the BAT is going to be allowing drinks and snacks inside the theater. Times sure change. As I was telling someone this morning, when we saw The Iceman Cometh back in 1999, two women brought their drinks into the theater and the usher made them leave until they finished their drinks.
You may have to register at the NY Times to read the article.
Thanks to Marlene.

LEX SIGHTING!! I stumbled across a new Lex Luthor action figure at Target this evening. It’s Kryptonite POWER Lex Luthor and it’s from the new Superman Returns/Man of Steel line. This line has new packaging and according to the pictures on the back, this is the only Lex Luthor figure but the action figure line also has characters named Metallo and Mongul.
Ok, I’ll admit that the basic Lex figure is the same as the other two Lex figures, but this time he’s all in black and has body armor. It was $6.99 at Target. You can also find some of the original SR action figures on clearance right now too. Pardon my pictures. I had to scan him since I haven’t figured out how to use my new camera yet.
The IMDB shows the next Superman movie is going to be called Superman: Man of Steel and will be released in 2009. Which coincidentally will be the year that Kevin Spacey turns 50 years old! Thanks to Marlene.
